How to to what the harlem renaissance, Write an Exceptional New-Grad Nursing Resume. Writing a new-grad nursing resume is a daunting task for most new-grads. The fear of having no experience and being unqualified leaves many wondering what details to include. Moreover, many new-grads wonder how to structure their nursing resume in essays a way that best conveys their current skill-set and value to prospective employers. As former recruiters, we reviewed thousands of new-grad resumes. In this blog post, weíll draw on to what does renaissance that experience to provide a comprehensive guide to creating an amazing nursing resume for new-grads. How to Structure Your New-Grad Nursing Resume.

How you structure your resume has an impact on Differences Modern Society and The by Homer its effectiveness. Letís first consider which headings to include on your resume. There are certain headings that every new-grad should include and other headings that will depend on whether or not you have any applicable details to include under those headings. Headings that every new-grad nursing resume should include (Required) Every new-grad resume should include the following headings (weíll discuss why we recommend these headings and provide tips for the harlem, each below): Summary Licenses and Certifications Education Clinical Rotations. Optional headings for your new-grad nursing resume.

Each of the following headings should be considered and included based on whether or not you have relevant details to include: Work History Affiliations Volunteer Activities Honors and Awards Skills Summary Languages. Now letís take a look at the ordering of the idealism, headings. To What The Harlem? Of course, your contact information should be at the top of your resume. As usual, you should place the Summary as first heading on your resume. Next, include your Licenses and the race act 2000, Certifications if you have already obtained them. However, if you have not already obtained them, then you may want to push this heading farther down the list under your Clinical Rotations. Next, include your Education followed by your Clinical Rotations. You will undoubtedly find many who recommend that you place your Work History first. Moreover, placing Work History before Education is the to what does the harlem refer?, conventional standard.

As a result, itís difficult for some to trust advice that recommends placing Education first. So, hereís our supporting argumentÖ As a new-grad, you may not even have work experience. If you do, itís most likely that you donít have applicable work experience and even if you do have applicable experience, itís most certainly not Registered Nursing work experience. You canít obtain RN work experience without an RN license and define ocean currents, you canít get an RN license without first graduating from an accredited nursing program and passing the NCLEX. Moreover, your new-grad nursing resume should quickly convey that you are a new-grad. There is no point in trying to hide this fact. If employers are considering new-grads for to what does the harlem, an open position, then recruiters and hiring managers are going to be receptive to your situation.

If theyíre not considering new-grads for the opening and are instead requiring experience for when slave abolished, the position, then theyíre not going to does the harlem renaissance refer?, be receptive to your situation. Youíre not going to essays, trick them by putting your CNA or EMT work experience ahead of your education. In fact, doing this could make your resume even less effective as reviewers receptive to new-grads may never even get to does the harlem renaissance, your new-grad status before passing on the resume. Perhaps more importantly, our recommendation is based on what was desired by Differences in the for Fame Between Illiad by Homer, the hiring managers we worked with. You will find corroboration for renaissance, this recommendation from reputable sources all over the internet. Under Armour Strategy? For example, the sample new-grad resumes from renaissance refer?, California State University Chico and University of Texas San Antonio both have the versus, headings listed in the order we recommend. Additionally, UC Davis Medical Center requires Education, Senior Preceptorship and Clinical Rotations on the resumes of all applicants to their nursing residency program. For further proof, letís take a look at what a hiring manager had to say about the harlem renaissance refer?, new-grad resumes. As the under armour promotion strategy, Director of to what the harlem renaissance refer? Workforce Development for Orange County Memorial Care University and a Board Member of the under strategy, Association of does California Nurse Leaders, Maria-Jean Caterinicchio, RN, MS said, ďIt (your resume) should state where you have done your clinicals and define ocean, any certifications such as EKG and does refer?, ACLS. You can also include any conferences you have attended beyond the classroom.Ē Your Clinical Rotations and versus, Education are key components of your new-grad resume! That takes care of the 4 required headings.

The 6 optional headings can be ranked as you see fit. Remember, you should only to what does the harlem, include these headings if you have substantial details to convey. And you may want to the race relations act 2000, rank them in order of strength as they relate to to what renaissance refer?, the job in question. Was The Slave Trade? For example, if you have experience working as a CNA in a hospital setting, then your Work History should be given a higher ranking because it highly relates to the job youíre applying for. Specific Details to Include on Your New-grad Nursing Resume. Youíll undoubtedly come across many people who recommend that new-grads use an Objective instead of to what a Summary on their resumes. The argument is public speaking that you really have nothing to summarize as a new-grad.

However, we think that Objectives are an to what does, outdated resume heading that do nothing to advance your main objective of conveying why youíre the right person for the job. Realism Versus? Moreover, you can include an objective within a summary if youíre intent on having one. Here are three articles from major publications that support summaries over objectives: Now, you may have heard that recruiters spend 6 seconds reviewing your resume. Does Renaissance? While we doubt that they really spend that little time reviewing each resume, we certainly believe that the Differences Quest Between and The Illiad, time they spend is to what the harlem renaissance refer? very limited. Therefore, your goal is to make sure your resume can be easily scanned, starting with your Summary. You do not want recruiters getting stuck on your Summary by writing a big paragraph.

Instead, use bullet points and try to armour promotion, keep each point at 1 to 2 lines . As for what to does the harlem refer?, include in your SummaryÖItís a good idea to state that youíre a new-grad. You might summarize your clinical rotations. Speaking Essays? You may point out any special skills that you have, like second languages or computer skills. And, as mentioned previously, you may include an objective. We recommend listing each license and certification with the following information: Full name of the license or certification. Full name of the issuing body of the does, license or certification. Expiration date of the license or certification if applicable.

License or certification number if applicable. Versus? If your license is part of the Nursing Licensure Compact, then it should be indicated. Clinical Rotations are an extremely important part of your new-grad nursing resume. As illustrated above, hiring managers indicate that they want to versus idealism, see these details. Major teaching universities require that they be included on resumes submitted for does refer?, their residency programs.

We consider them the relations, crux of your new-grad resume. At a minimum, you should include the following: Details to include about your clinical rotations. Type of experience (Clinical Rotation, Senior Preceptorship, other). Start and end dates. Total number of hours worked. Name of the hospital or institution. City and State. Renaissance? Name of the unit/department (examples: Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Medical Surgical Unit (MS), Labor and Delivery Unit (LD)). For example, the hospital specific unit name might be 3-West, but nobody outside the hospital knows what that means. Instead, list the type of unit it was as designated by the type of patients the does the harlem, unit took. In addition to the details above, we also recommend including the following information: Optional details to include about your clinical rotations. Facility type: Every facility has a technical designation.

For example, most hospitals are ďAcute Care HospitalsĒ. Other designations include Long Term Care Facility, Long Term Acute Care Facility, Childrenís Hospital, etc. Listing the facility type lets the reader know without a doubt what the setting was. Number of beds in the facility. List the was the slave abolished, facilityís trauma designation if applicable. To What? If the facility was a teaching hospital, then include that information. As you may have noticed, many of the details we recommend are technical details pertaining to to what does renaissance, the facility and unit. These details convey so much about the versus, setting you were in to what and the experiences you were exposed to with very few words. So including them provides the reader with a ton of useful information.

Additionally, it demonstrates that you understand how import these details are to any healthcare organization, otherwise, you wouldnít have listed them. Additional options for highlighting your clinical rotations. Finally, you may also wish to include specific details about the experience you gained while engaged with your clinical rotations. For example, did you have any experiences that might make you a more attractive candidate to the prospective employer? Did you learn anything specific about compassion for public speaking essays, patients, team work, the importance of learning and growth as a new-grad RN? If you did, then try to offer the does the harlem renaissance, specifics to ocean currents, illustrate exactly what happened. You may also be able to relate your clinical rotation experience to specific goals or problems of the employer youíre applying to.

For example, maybe your research on the prospective employer turns up the fact that theyíre seeking Magnet Status. If one of the facilities that you worked at during your rotations was seeking to achieve the same goal, then you may be able to find some way to relate your experience to it. Or, perhaps the prospective employer is trying to improve their HCAHPS score and one of the facilities you worked at just achieved success with a similar endeavor. There are limitless possibilities with this option. The main idea is to try and to what renaissance refer?, relate your experience during clinical rotations to a real problem or goal faced by the prospective employer. At this point, weíve covered each of our recommended required headings. Public? As you may have noticed, weíve offered tons of options. Essay Ė Medea in Apollonius Rhodius and does renaissance refer? Euripides. How and why does the Differences in the Quest for Fame Modern Illiad by Homer characterisation of Medea in Apollonius Rhodius draw on the characterisation of the Euripidean Medea. The Argonautica is the only surviving Hellenistic epic and extant work of Apollonius Rhodius. Unfortunately little is known about Apolloniusí life, or how he viewed his work, as few extant materials refer to him[1]. Argonautica was written in the third century B.C. and broke from the Hellenistic tradition for short literary works[2]. Does The Harlem! The epic draws upon a long literary and mythological tradition that included Euripidesí Medea . Within scholarship the plays of Euripides are widely considered to be a forerunner of define, Hellenistic works[3]. In Argonautica this is particularly clear through the allusions Apollonius draws with his characterisation of Medea. Medea was a popular mythological subject and appeared in many other works such as those of Pindar and Apollodorus[4]. These works are important in respect of the mythological traditions of Medea as they add to to what does the harlem renaissance, the understanding of the development of the myth. However, the focus of armour promotion strategy, this essay will be upon the representations of Medea within Argonautica and Medea and how and why Apollonius draws upon Euripidesí characterisation. The mythology of Medea is to what does refer?, very complex due to varying literary traditions.

Euripidesí Medea is a particularly well known version of the myth; therefore, the name Medea in the minds of many brings forth his image of a passionate, angry and strong-willed woman. In mythology Medea was not always the woman who murdered her children, as depicted by Euripides. Speaking! One variation of the myth tells how Medea may have killed her children by accident[5]. Another how the to what does people of Corinth murdered them as an act of act 2000, revenge for the murder of their princess[6]. Apollonius, instead of using either of these versions of the myth, chose to foreshadow his Argonautica with the events of does the harlem refer?, Euripidesí Medea . However, there are indications Apollonius drew upon other literary influences such as Nausicaa from Homerís Odyssey . It will be necessary to briefly consider such influences in order to assess the extent to which they embed themselves within Apolloniusí characterisation of Medea. Relations Act 2000! Scholarship has taken a keen interest in the representation of Apolloniusí Medea. In particular Hunter considers Medeaís Ď suffering for love í in one section of his work and the intertext between Apollonius and to what does renaissance Euripides[7]. Idealism! On the other hand, Pavlock considers Medeaís passion to be dangerous and uncontrollable. These viewpoints, amongst others, will be given due consideration[8]. Medea is a defining mythological figure and as such it is important to understand how and why Apollonius draws upon Euripides.

Therefore, this essay will demonstrate that Apollonius, in the harlem refer? order to foreshadow his epic, draws upon the characterisation of Euripidesí Medea. This is essays, undertaken through Medeaís rhetorical skills, assistance to does, Jason and passion whilst also making specific reference to certain images. Furthermore, notwithstanding other influences from epic, it will also be shown that Apollonius uses this characterisation to explore the reactions of the Alexandrian audience to the increased personal freedom of women and the psychology of passion. The Medeaís of Euripides and Apollonius. One of the primary considerations of how Apollonius foreshadows and Differences Modern Society and The Illiad draws upon the characterisation of Euripidesí Medea is through her rhetorical ability. The Harlem! Apolloniusí Medea is at first quiet in Jasonís presence having been Ďseized by speechless stuporí due to the arrow of Eros[9]. However, from this point the character develops a rhetorical skill attuned to public essays, that of Euripidesí Medea. To What Refer?! The dispute between Jason and Medea, following her discovery of the secret negotiations with the Colchian fleet, recalls the coupleís first argument within Euripidesí Medea [10]. In each instance Medea delivers a carefully constructed speech which denounces Jasonís behaviour. Euripidesí Medea commences her speech focusing on the wrongs Jason has committed. Slave Trade! Medea then recounts her sacrifices, recalls the does the harlem oath Jason broke and ends her speech considering what she is to do, calling upon the gods.

Apolloniusí Medea starts by questioning what Jason has planned for her. Public! She then reminds him of his oath, her sacrifices and proceeding to consider what will become of her she calls upon the gods. The chastisement of refer?, Jason by Medea evokes and under armour strategy rewrites her agon in Medea [11]. It is particularly noteworthy that Medeaís speech written by Apollonius follows a similar pattern to Euripidesí, one an audience familiar with Medea would recognise. To What Does Renaissance! This argument can be considered further through the supplications of speaking, Medea in both works. Each of these is intended to ensure Medeaís self-preservation; Circe cleanses her blood guilt, Creon stays her exile and Arete and Aegeus provide protection from her enemies[12]. Apollonius appears to have drawn on to what renaissance refer?, Euripidesí characterisation of the race relations act 2000, Medea as a survivor, able to use her rhetorical skill in order to secure what she requires. This is drawn out through the language and actions of Medeaís supplications.

Each instance is undertaken on her knees putting herself in the appropriate position of respect to the person hearing her request[13]. To What Does The Harlem! Furthermore, the language used on each occasion is comparable, ĎShow kindness to me!ÖTake pity on meÖMay the immortals grant you both a life of fulfilmentÖchildren, and the glory of an versus idealism unravaged cityí Medea declares to to what the harlem, Arete[14]. Likewise to armour promotion strategy, Aegeus she states Ďhave pity on an unfortunate womanÖdo not allow me to be cast into exileÖmay your longing for to what does the harlem children be brought to fulfilmentÖand may you yourself die happy!í[15]. Though Medea does not ask Creon for act 2000 pity the approach used in supplicating him is similar: Have no fearÖI am not the kind of person to commit crimes against my rulersÖAnd now I do not begrudge you prosperity. Make your marriageÖand may good fortune attend you[16]. The Medea of to what the harlem refer?, Apollonius like Euripides understands well the process and requirements of supplication and uses it to her advantage[17]. Medeaís rhetorical skill in Argonautica and desire for self-preservation are the Ďhallmarks of Euripidesí heroineí[18]. Realism Versus! Furthermore the specifics of the language used and does the harlem renaissance description of the supplications within Argonautica parallel that of Euripidesí Medea . This desire for self-preservation becomes very apparent during Medeaís supplication of Jason at the beginning of Argonautica book four[19].

Medea transforms from a woman in under distress to to what the harlem renaissance, a plotter of her brotherís murder, scenes reminiscent of the ruthless and armour strategy determined woman who commits infanticide in Euripidesí Medea [20]. Medeaís act of infanticide is motivated by anger induced by Jasonís betrayal[21]. It is this allusion Apollonius draws upon to prepare the audience for to what does the harlem renaissance the murder of the race, Apsyrtos[22]. The murder is attributed to Medea in to what does renaissance Euripidesí Medea [23]. However, in Argonautica Jason is the murderer with Medeaís role greatly reduced to co-conspirator; Medea requires purification as she is not free from guilt[24]. Apolloniusí use of ????????? (by or at the hearth) for slave trade the location of Circeís purification of Jason and Medea is renaissance refer?, similar to the phraseology of realism idealism, Euripides[25].

During Jasonís recollection of the to what does renaissance murder in Medea he describes the Quest Modern Society and The Illiad location as Ďat the hearthí[26].Though Medea takes place sometime after Argonautica , through Apolloniusí use of language he foreshadows situations which will occur in the harlem renaissance refer? the future[27]. The ability to devise brilliant and destructive schemes is an intricate part of Medeaís character in both representations. Medeaís name means ĎThe Plannerí and this skill is Differences Quest Modern Society Illiad, a consistent theme throughout Argonautica and Medea [28]. To What Refer?! Medeaís planning secures Jasonís victory in the trials set by Aietes (her father), enables the murder of her brother and Differences in the Quest for Fame Between Modern Society Illiad by Homer removal of Pelias from the throne of Iolcus[29]. Without Medeaís aid Jasonís story would have ended as it was thought by the Argonauts that Aietes first trial was unachievable[30]. The potion provided by Apolloniusí Medea to Jason protects him during the trial and refer? it is she who lulls the realism idealism dragon to sleep so that he may seize the fleece[31]. These actions foreshadow Euripidesí Medea who declares to Jason that it was she who saved him from death on two occasions, the trial of the fire-breathing bulls and the dragon[32]. Apolloniusí decision to have Jason commit the murder places the focus on Medeaís ingenuity and cunning instead of the act itself. There are subtle differences between the works such as Euripidesí declaration that Medea killed the dragon whereas Apollonius spares its life.

Though this difference exists it is clear that Apollonius was heavily influenced by the elements of Euripidesí story that focus on to what the harlem, the aid provided by Medea. When Was The Slave! It has been suggested that, at such an early stage, Apollonius wanted to to what, ensure that Medea remained free of violence[33]. However, this difference was likely intended to develop Medeaís character as, within a short time, she begins to reveal her darker side. Medea declares that Jason should not break his oath or, ĎMay my Furies drive you straight from your homeland, because of what I have suffered through your heartlessness. What I say the gods will not leave unaccomplishedí[34]. The language is reminiscent of the curses Medea calls upon speaking, Jason in Medea [35]. The Harlem Renaissance Refer?! Comparison can also be drawn with the references to Jason as the Ďvilest of knavesí, an enemy of the gods and define ocean currents an oath breaker in to what renaissance Medea , descriptions similarly reflected in Argonautica [36]. Apollonius describes Medea as Ďseething with grim angerí believing that she is at currents risk of abandonment and requires placating by Jason[37]. Arguably, the anger of Medea prepares the audience for the murder of to what the harlem, her brother that follows shortly.

Medeaís anger can be compared to Aietesí when he discovers Jasonís intention to claim the Golden Fleece[38]. Medea becomes her fatherís daughter and Differences Between and The by Homer although the murder of Apsyrtos is shocking it is the climax of the sacrifices that led to it[39]. Medeaís anger in both works in part results from her sacrifices in order to aid Jason. Medea betrayed her family and homeland to runaway with a foreigner who she assists in murdering her brother[40]. The sacrifices are a key feature in Apolloniusí characterisation of does the harlem renaissance refer?, Medea and there are clear indications that they are drawn from Euripidesí representation. Medea sacrificed much out of love for Jason. However, the love was not romantic but instead fiery passion influenced by the gods. Differences In The And The Illiad By Homer! The passion induced by Eros is a destructive force that foreshadows the events that take place in Medea . Apollonius describes how Erosí arrow Ďburned deep in the girlís heart like a flameí arousing in Medea a passion for Jason[41].

Comparison can be drawn with the description provided by Euripides of Medea being Ďsmitten with love for Jasoní[42]. The shooting is described by Apollonius in violent terms, Eros Ďfitted the arrow-notch to the bowstringÖand shot straight at MedeaÖthe destructive love which crouched unobserved and burnt in to what does renaissance Medeaís heartí[43]. Define Ocean Currents! This echoes the comments of Euripidesí chorus who declare that they never want the arrow of desire to Ďfly against my heartí or for to what refer? Aphrodite to Ďmadden my heart with love for a strangerís bedí[44]. Medea initially under Erosí influence is very different to Euripidesí characterisation. She is a Ďyoung, vulnerable girl overwhelmed by love for Jasoní[45]. This indicates that Euripides is not the only influence upon Apollonius. There are allusions to Homer and during book three of Argonautica it is the race relations act 2000, suggested Apollonius continuously recalls the Phaeacian episode of does renaissance refer?, Odyssey whilst still reminding his audience of Medea [46]. Public! The potential relationship of Odysseus and refer? Nausicaa has been contrasted with the past and realism versus future of Jason and Medea[47]. There is a virgin princess who is to what does, ready for marriage but Jason like Odysseus will not stay to marry, though he will take Medea with him unlike Odysseus[48]. When Was The Slave Abolished! Furthermore the scene where Medea leaves to meet Jason at Hecateís temple is the harlem, considered to ocean, imitate Odyssey book six[49]. However, Nausicaa unlike Medea would not Ďbetray her own sense of shame, or her family [and] never hesitates to speak freely with Odysseusí[50].

The Nausicaa story is inverted by Apollonius and although there is some influence upon the characterisation of Medea the primary influence is Medea . To What Does The Harlem Renaissance! Apollonius continuously returns to allusions of Jason and Medeaís future. Jason declares Ďmay Olympian Zeus himselfÖwitness my oath that I shall make you my lawful wedded wifeí[51]. Apollonius uses this line to define, anticipate Medeaís appeal to the gods in Medea . The nurse recounts how Medea, Ďinvokes the mighty assurance of his sworn right hand, and calls the gods to witness the unjust return she is gettingí[52]. In turn the oath in Medea becomes an appeal to the oath in Argonautica [53]. Furthermore, though Athena influences Nausicaa by enhancing Odysseusí appearance she does not experience the same destructive power of love brought upon Medea by Eros[54]. Renaissance! This is best attested through Medeaís violent state of mind in Argonautica where, Ďshe longed to set fire to the ship, to destroy everythingÖand throw herself into theÖflamesí[55]. This foreshadows Medeaís consideration as to whether she should set fire to Jason and Glauceís bridal chamber but also the immolation of Glauce and Creon through the realism versus wedding gift[56].

In both Argonautica and Medea love is does the harlem renaissance refer?, described in terms of a powerful force which has overcome Medea. Love is described by armour Euripides as a Ďbaneí and does Medea herself as possessing a Ďlove-maddened heartí and realism versus having shown Ďmore love than senseí[57]. This language brings to mind Apolloniusí description of Medea as having Ďbitter-pain in her heartí and suffering Ďdistressí[58]. Renaissance! Apolloniusí use of language and imagery is very Euripidean. It does not only foreshadow the act 2000 events of Medea but also creates links between the characterisations. The use of clothing as part of Medea and Jasonís plot to murder Apsyrtos in Argonautica has drawn keen scholarly interest[59]. Apolloniusí description of the the harlem deception used to under promotion strategy, lure Apsyrtos to does the harlem, his death is the same as that used by Euripidesí Medea to destroy Glauce[60]. This similarity is believed to be a long held recognition by Hunter but can also be considered more broadly within the wider context of Argonautica [61]. The Race! Clothing has been identified as an important theme throughout as it draws the audience to does the harlem renaissance, consider past or future events either within or outside the epic[62]. The description of Medeaís dress bathed in moonlight following the capture of the fleece appears as though it were a wedding dress[63]. This can be considered further as the imagery takes on a frightening aspect foreshadowing the events of Medeaís nuptial clothing gift to Differences in the Quest Between Modern Society and The, Glauce[64].

Comparison can also be drawn between Jasonís celebration at does renaissance refer? having captured the fleece and the future death of Glauce. When Jason raises the fleece he is described in terms of a young girl who Ďcatches in her fine dress the gleam of the full moonÖher heart is delighted at the sight of the lovely radianceí[65]. Act 2000! This simile whilst emasculating Jason for having won the fleece without risk to himself also brings to mind the image of Glauce putting on Medeaís deadly wedding gift[66]. Glauce is described as Ďarranging her hair in a bright mirror, smilingÖ [parading] about the to what does renaissance roomÖentranced with the giftsí[67]. The parallels between the images cannot be ignored. Essays! It is to what the harlem renaissance refer?, clear that Apollonius has seized upon a key incident in under armour promotion Euripidesí tragedy and provided ample connections that foreshadow the future death and destruction that Medea will bring to Corinth. Why Euripidesí Medea ? In the years that followed the death of Alexander the Great in does renaissance refer? 323 B.C. the under armour strategy Macedonian Empire broke into separate kingdoms ruled by his successors[68]. During this period life for Apolloniusí Hellenistic audience changed for various reasons such as increased migration[69].

It became more socially acceptable for a woman to be educated and to enjoy a public role[70]. Though personal freedom increased there were still limitations on does refer?, what a woman could do. However, within the kingdoms life for women would have varied considerably depending on where they lived and their political class[71]. Apollonius within Argonautica uses aspects of Medeaís characterisation as a mirror for the societal changes in Alexandria. Medea was first performed in Athens in the fifth century B.C. During this period work and the influence of public opinion would have predominantly kept Athenian women at home[72]. Though some womenís work would have been within the public sphere those who remained at home would have had little freedom[73]. At the promotion strategy beginning of the play, Medea has been fulfilling the role of an Athenian wife, remaining at home looking after it and the children[74]. The majority of evidence of the lives of Greek women comes from Athens.

However, it is important to to what renaissance, be cautious when drawing conclusions on the lives of women in wider Greek society due to when abolished, the differing natures of each city state[75]. In Medea the idealistic societal structure of Athens is broken down by Medeaís emergence from the home and her challenges towards her former husband in public[76]. This can be compared with societal changes in Alexandria as women began to enjoy an to what does the harlem refer? increased freedom of movement, particularly in the race act 2000 comparison to Athens[77]. Medea is an to what the harlem refer? ideal figure to represent such changes in society, achieved through the portrayal of her enjoying the freedom to move around her country unrestricted[78]. Apolloniusí portrait is realistic as although Medea has freedom she is required to have her handmaids accompany her; though under her instruction they leave her to act 2000, speak with Jason alone[79]. However, it must be noted that there is still a dependency on Aietes and subsequently Jason[80]. It might be argued that the does the harlem level of dependency is variable throughout Argonautica ; for example in respect of her marriage. Medea takes control of Quest for Fame, some of her own affairs within Argonautica such as her agreement to marry Jason and contracting her own marriage[81].

Marriage for Greeks within Alexandria would have required the permission of the bridesí father or guardian[82]. Both Jason and Alkinoos are thought to act as Medeaís guardians. The former as Medea declares herself his daughter, sister and wife. The latter as he presides over does the harlem renaissance, the decision whether or not to return Medea to her father[83]. Versus! Neither can actually be considered to have fulfilled the role of guardian as Jason is Medeaís future husband and to what renaissance Alkinoos is not present at the wedding. Therefore, the agreement to marry is without her fatherís consent and the marriage occurs without a guardian present. Furthermore, the Golden Fleece is considered to represent Medeaís dowry[84]. Medea secured the fleece for Jason and as such can be viewed as having paid her own dowry.

The union of Medea and Jason is not representative of an Alexandrian marriage. Greek women, except royalty, were required to use an intermediary or guardian for armour promotion legal and to what the harlem monetary transactions. However, women using the Egyptian or Jewish legal systems could undertake such transactions themselves[85]. There is some papyrus evidence in existence that suggests women were able to undertake private contractual matters in respect of property and their marriage[86]. The first example is Olympias who contracts her own marriage with her father as legal representative[87]. Another document states that Heraclides took Demetria Ďfrom her fatherí but the versus contract is indicative that the couple entered into the agreement together. The contract informs Demetria how she would resolve a breach of contract should she need to. To What Does Renaissance! Even though documents such as this exist it cannot be taken that women undertook contractual matters regularly.

Apolloniusí portrayal of Medea indicates a changing attitude towards women and an Ďaudience coming to terms with womenís power and privilegeí[88]. The influence of wealthy and royal women could be attributed to the development of this class of Alexandrian women. It was particularly important for the privileged of was the slave trade, Alexandrian society to be highly educated[89]. To What Does Renaissance! Arguably the construction of the great library of Alexandria in the third century demonstrates this desire[90]. Apollonius was well-educated as demonstrated through his extensive use of mythological and ocean currents geographical understanding within Argonautica [91]. Apollonius assumes his Alexandrian audience would have been aware of the mythological traditions of Medea and to what the harlem refer? Jason and the story told by Euripides[92]. Given the importance placed upon knowledge by Alexandrian society this assumption is plausible. Idealism! Medea is described as speechless in Jasonís presence in the first scene within Aietes palace[93]. However, Medeaís character develops during book three of Argonautica and she begins to speak freely, challenging Jason and in subsequent scenes the Argonauts. Though there is no reference to to what renaissance refer?, her education by either Euripides or Apollonius the language used by Medea shows her intellect in both works. There is evidence to suggest greater access to education for in the Quest for Fame Between Society women during the Hellenistic period.

The existence of to what does renaissance refer?, prominent educated women such as Hipparchia a philosopher and Erinna a poetess provide some evidence to support this[94]. Idealism! Furthermore, epigraphic evidence exists such as the does refer? gravestone of a woman from Sardis that states ĎThe book shows you were wiseí suggesting she would have been educated[95]. This does not necessarily indicate that all women had access to education but instead implies that educated women were present within Hellenistic society. In some respects society became less restrictive including travel, certain contractual matters and education, but others remained such as the holding of public office[96]. The Race Act 2000! Though there is evidence of the harlem renaissance, one wealthy woman having held a magisterial position true equality was not possible and as such this cannot be considered to slave, have been common[97]. Apolloniusí draws upon the characterisation of Euripidesí Medea the strong-willed woman and devises her story for the developing Alexandrian audience.

Medea was refashioned for his Argonautica whilst retaining the to what does renaissance refer? abilities of skilled rhetorician, thinker and planner that would have been recognised by his audience. Arguably Apollonius challenged the perspective of women in Alexandrian society through Medea. Medeaís first appearance in Argonautica as a love-struck young girl unable to speak to Jason is unrecognisable to the representation of Euripides[98]. Apolloniusí Medea appears more a woman overwhelmed by her first feelings of love[99]. The portrayal of Eros shooting Medea has led to the suggestion of her as a victim of violence[100]. On the other hand, the scene can be viewed ironically as the sorceress becomes subject to a spell[101]. The Race Relations! Instead of the powerful sorceress Medea is the victim of to what does renaissance, magic with her prayer to Hecate an attempt to process her feelings[102]. It has been suggested that Apollonius constructed Argonautica as a prequel to Medea [103]. The evidence of Medeaís rhetorical skill, assistance to Jason and involvement in the race act 2000 Apsyrtosí murder would certainly support such an argument. The divergence from Euripides arguably exists to enable Medeaís character to develop. Apollonius, in Argonautica , draws upon the complex array of emotions in Medea providing background to the feelings, setting their roots in to what does renaissance Medeaís past.

The character development of Medea throughout Argonautica books three and four indicates a progression towards her Corinthian counterpart. The psychology of love and passion explored by Apollonius is an important part of Medeaís characterisation that requires particular consideration. The development of in the Quest Between Modern Society, Medeaís passion for Jason is undertaken through a dream during which she convinces herself that Jason has come to Colchis in order to marry her[104]. The dream Ďrepresents an important stage in the awakening of her passioní[105]. Arguably it bridges the gap between the naivety experienced during her first sighting of does the harlem renaissance, Jason and strength at their subsequent meeting at Hecateís temple. Through the slave trade course of the meeting the love-struck Medea soon gives way to the more familiar characterisation of Euripides[106]. Scholarship has widely recognised that Apolloniusí Medeaís passion becomes extremely dangerous[107]. Pavlock suggests that Apolloniusí association of women with the does the harlem renaissance disruption of social norms and the community is his attempt to reinforce Ďtraditional views about excessive passion of the femaleí[108].

This is certainly an interesting consideration as the destructive nature of infatuation is widely explored in Athenian drama. Apollonius, through associating excessive passion with Medea, also draws upon imagery from other plays. In Euripidesí Trojan Women and Hippolytus Helen and when was the abolished Phaedraís passions have brought about death and destruction[109]. To What The Harlem Refer?! The argument is noteworthy as Medea, like Helen, leaves with a man she barely knew and, like Phaedra, her actions result in death. Therefore, Argonautica could be interpreted as Apollonius commenting upon the negative effects of excess passion. Medeaís threat to Jason that she will haunt him as a Fury has been considered to border on madness and foreshadow the violence of the future[110]. However, although it does foreshadow Medeaís violent future, arguably it is not madness as she is when was the slave trade, a frightened woman, grasping at to what does refer? reasons for Differences for Fame Modern Society Jason to not return her to her father who will punish her. The Harlem! There are indications that Apollonius explored the psychology of relations, women driven by does refer? passion with a Euripidean-like sympathy[111].

Euripidesí Phaedra analyses her passion for was the slave trade Hippolytus going through the possible options to master it; concealment, self-control and death[112]. Furthermore, Artemisí declaration that Aphrodite is to blame redeems Phaedra[113]. Likewise, in Euripidesí Helen , it is revealed that Helen would not have left with Paris and was brought to Egypt to protect her chastity[114]. Apollonius adopts a similar analytical approach to does refer?, Medea, focusing in particular on her psychology whilst also ensuring that she is portrayed in a realistic way. Even though Medea is when was the trade abolished, under Erosí spell Apollonius explores the realism of her passion and developing awareness of what is affecting her[115]. The realism can be seen through Medeaís natural response to the sunrise but also her shame at falling in love with a foreign stranger and the harlem renaissance refer? betraying her family and country[116]. The sense of shame bound Greek women to follow their fathersí instructions[117].

Shame culture was passed down through the ages and Argonautica appears as a piece of social commentary upon slave trade, the culture within Alexandrian society. Within Medeaís monologue she explores her desire but also her cognitive dissonance[118]. The sense of does the harlem renaissance, shame that love has brought Medea leads her to consider suicide. Was The Slave! Though Medea realises suicide will not release her as she believes she would be mocked anyway; a belief reminiscent of Euripidesí Medea[119]. Instead of portraying Medeaís passion as being disruptive Apolloniusí analysis focuses upon her emotions and decisions. When Jason and Medea first meet the the harlem audience know what is to come but at the same time it does not know[120]. Idealism! The audience are aware that Medea will provide assistance to Jason and to what renaissance refer? leave with him but they are also presented with her decision making process. Arguably, Apollonius used Medea to examine the psychology of passion. The division in define currents Medeaís personality between naivety and powerful sorceress might be seen as Apolloniusí attempt to to what does the harlem, explain the realism idealism future murder of renaissance, her children[121]. Alternatively Apolloniusí Medea could be looked upon as a sympathetic development of her characterisation akin to Euripides.

Apollonius explores the emotions of public speaking essays, love, passion and shame presenting a more realistic portrayal of does renaissance, Medeaís past as a prequel to Euripidesí Medea . It has become apparent that Apollonius draws upon under armour promotion, the characterisation of the Euripidean Medea in order to foreshadow the events of Medea . Furthermore, Argonautica is devised as a prequel to the harlem, Euripidesí Medea through language, imagery and action. There are indications of other influences upon Medeaís characterisation from tragedy and define ocean epic but the primary focus is Medea . Apolloniusí characterisation of does the harlem refer?, Medea is when slave trade, not limited to how it draws upon her but also why. Argonautica explores the to what does the harlem renaissance refer? finite increase in freedom for Alexandrian women and also the psychology of passion. There are constraints on the interpretation of Apolloniusí intentions due to the lack of information about him. However, despite such limitations it is possible to draw out the following conclusions.

There is a progressive development in Apolloniusí characterisation of Medea that slowly forms into her Euripidean counterpart. This is achieved by drawing upon key aspects of the Differences Quest Between Modern by Homer character created by Euripides, namely Medeaís rhetorical ability and her love of Jason. There are echoes of Euripidesí Medeaís Ďfierce natureí in Apolloniusí description of his Medea who seethes Ďwith grim angerí[122]. These aspects are interwoven with the imagery used by Apollonius that allude and foreshadow instances within Medea such as the gift of clothing presented to Apsyrtos echoing the future gift to Glauce. Apollonius explores the to what the harlem renaissance psychology of Medea through the representation of her being passionately and uncontrollably in versus idealism love. It has been argued that Apollonius is commenting on the dangers of such passion. However, it is apparent that his treatment of this subject is sensitive. Medea is shamed by her feelings and behaviour towards Jason to the point of wanting to to what the harlem renaissance refer?, commit suicide. Under Armour Strategy! Medeaís passion though uncontrollable (due to the influence of the to what does the harlem renaissance refer? gods) is explored in detail by Apollonius through her thought processes. Though also considered by Euripides the treatment is brief due to Differences in the Quest Modern and The, the limitations of a 1418 line play.

Apollonius used the length and breadth of an epic to provide a more detailed analysis of Medea and her actions, presenting a relatively realistic image and prequel to the Alexandrian audience. Society developed during the to what does renaissance Hellenistic period and women enjoyed a limited increase in freedom. Euripidesí Medea, as a strong woman, provided a basis for the exploration of such freedom. Though no reference is made to Medea having had any formal education both characterisations appear educated and confident in their interactions with men. Evidence would suggest that, in this period, there was an increase in the education of women and strategy as such Apollonius took the opportunity to represent this. Apollonius, like many modern day readers, saw something important within Medea and that is does, Medea herself. The fire, passion and strength immortalised by Euripides; Medea is the perfect figure for act 2000 epic. To What Does Renaissance Refer?! Argonautica and Medea are exceptional and important works. The former as it is the and The Illiad by Homer only surviving Hellenistic epic and the latter as the only extant Athenian drama that deals with the Argonautic cycle. Within the myth of Medea, modern audiences find both a gripping narrative and complexity of the character development.

It is considered by Griffiths that Ďin facing the complexities of Medeaís identity we face the complexities of our owní[123]. Apollonius brought this challenge to the Alexandrian audience through his complex portrayal of Euripidesí Medea. Explain the goals and interests of the Harlem Renaissance Refer to

china essay paper FROM COUNTRY TO CITY. Social Changes of to what the harlem renaissance refer?, China in Photography. Translated by John Yu Zou. The Chinese Reform has been underway for more than a quarter of a century. This historical social transformation is relations act 2000, one in which all of Chinese society is moving toward urbanization. In the context of such a massive makeover, Chinese documentary photography provides a sustained focus on social changes and unprecedented new social experiences.

With support from Bates College, I organized this exhibition of photographs with works by to what, seven contemporary Chinese photographers to illuminate the path that China has traveled in public speaking, the past twenty-five years. The exhibition is to what does the harlem renaissance refer?, intended to illustrate changes in Chinese society to an American audience. The photographs by the painter Liu Xiaodi were taken in the late 1970s and early 1980s. At the time, while he was an art student on fieldwork trips in Chinaís rural areas, he sketched and took photographs. Realism! As an the harlem renaissance, art student, he was motivated to take the photographs as source material for his paintings. However, it is idealism, precisely because Liu did not receive formal schooling as a photographer that these images are free from some of the conventions of to what refer?, art photography.

Instead of methodically orchestrating light and composition, he merely recorded what he saw through the camera, so that upon his return to the city, he could scrutinize the when slave trade abolished images again and rework them into his paintings. Without the photographerís preoccupations, Liuís work conveys a moment of transparency and simplicity. Village (series), 1978-1979. I place Liu at the beginning of the exhibition because his images of Chinese rural life retain the traces of a society bound by the social structure and lifestyles of the Maoist era. Agricultural production among Chinese peasants, the conditions and substance of country living, and the states of the mind and mutual relations among people all receive representation in Liuís works. The photographs that he originally took for his painting projects made him an accidental witness to a unique episode in Chinese history. Master of the House (series) Zhao Weidong, 16, Jiyvan County, Compared with Liu Xiaodiís non-conceptual approach, Jiang Jian projects a distinctive formal and to what does conceptual awareness in his portraits taken in Henan province during the 1990s. His technique has an public, apparent and misleading straightforwardness. He positions peasant figures against images on the wall of the main room, the equivalent in to what does renaissance refer?, Chinese rural architecture to the living room in an urban residence.

In traditional Chinese living spaces, the central wall hanging in in the for Fame Between Society and The by Homer, the main room expresses the values of Chinese patriarchy and is usually a large-sized painting or work of calligraphy. Renaissance! The memorial tablets on the offering table express the importance of the lineage of the Differences Quest for Fame Between Modern Society and The Illiad by Homer clan and the centrality of family ethics. Traditionally, the cultural signs found in these graphic and calligraphic images impose symbolic restraint upon to what does renaissance refer? the behavior of family members. The main room is also the center of family activities including memorial services to ancestors, family conferences, and the reception of guests. The area serves family members and constitutes the key venue where they interact with visitors. These photographs reveal that, in the context of contemporary Chinese social transformation, we find not only ancient traditions persist in the space of these main rooms, but political ideologies and various elements of popular culture have now entered the space and are competing against one another.

Numerous political messages, images of contemporary popular culture, and signs of public essays, traditional culture coexist within the same space. To What Does Refer?! Today, interiors revealing traditional ritual activities are becoming more rare in public speaking essays, China, especially in the coastal cities. They are being replaced by décor evoking Western-style living rooms. The Master of the the harlem refer? House series expresses the the race persistence of Chinese rural society and folk traditions in an increasingly urban China. How do we understand the concurrence of to what renaissance refer?, popular society, traditional culture, Confucian traditions, and Differences in the Quest for Fame Between and The political ideologies, and their mutual impact on contemporary China? To what extent may we achieve accuracy in their description with the help of does, different theories and methodologies? Many of us are facing these questions. The unique approach of the Master of the House series provides some heuristic leads. Jiang Jian invites his subjects to adopt standing or sitting positions in define ocean, a living space that is to what, still richly resonant with meaning, and then within that format he records every visual detail of their bodily presence and their surroundings. It is through such detail that he displays the conditions of life among Chinese peasants, and through bold folk coloring he highlights the cultural taste in rural central China.

At the same time, Jiang is also able to render a scenario characterized by realism versus idealism, the coexistence of government ideologies, contemporary popular culture, and traditional culture. Of course, what we may further learn from the photographs is that the process of urbanization is also one in which the values of to what renaissance, urban living begin to be widely circulated and to take root in rural areas. Jiang Jian thus makes available to us a set of visual documents to help understand the daily lives of Chinese peasants in a specific geographic region. Besiege the under promotion City by the Country (series) Through the 1990s, Zhang Xinmin, from Guangdong province, was engaged in a colossal visual project: Besiege the renaissance City by the Country: The Long March of Chinese Peasants to the City . This project consisted of three. parts: Village and Small Town Life , To the City , and The City . In a panoramic sweep, Zhang tried to public speaking, capture the single most significant event in the contemporary transformation of Chinese society: peasantsí departure. from their land and their integration into to what does renaissance refer? city life. Since the 1980s, because of radical changes in Differences in the Modern Society Illiad, Chinaís social structure and economic policies, there has been a fevered acceleration in the process of urbanization.

Massive numbers of surplus laborers from rural China flocked to the city in search of work. According to a survey conducted by the Rural Survey Team at Chinaís Central Statistics Bureau, by 2001 almost ninety million Chinese workers had moved from rural to to what does the harlem renaissance refer?, urban regions. Besiege the City by the Country (series) However, for peasant workers, the prospects for life and work in the city have not been good. The challenges they face in the cities far surpass finding adequate food and shelter.

Cities and their social structures have also not been prepared enough, in either material or psychological terms, to welcome peasant workers. Even though the cities and their traditional residents have grown dependent upon the services of peasant workers, the latter are often subject to Differences Quest for Fame Society, ill treatment. Zhangís photographs reveal the urban survival techniques of Chinese peasants and their gradual transition toward their new roles as city dwellers. The moments he captures forcefully convey the details of peasant life in the city, whether it is the taking of pictures for to what does the harlem renaissance, identification cards, which is the first step toward finding a job in the city, or the pin-ups of voluptuous women and the blown-up images of armour promotion strategy, a Chinese banknote decorating their mosquito-netted bunks. Zhang Xingminís photographs remind us that in the process of urbanization, peasant workers have come to constitute a key component of contemporary Chinese urban life. Their living and working conditions in to what renaissance, the cities should be acknowledged as a part of Chinaís social reality, and speaking a part of Chinaís urban culture. Through his photographic eye, Zhang gives detailed representation to their ordeals in the urban environment.

Shanghailanders (series), 1992-1995. In the 1990s, urbanization in China grew at an extraordinary pace. Many social tensions intensified and became highly visible. While the speed of social change no doubt left an indelible impact on renaissance refer? the values and lifestyles of peasants, it also profoundly reshaped the ideas and daily lives of strategy, urban dwellers. Beginning in the early 1990s, the Shanghai photographer Lu Yuanmin spent ten years producing the series Shanghailanders . With his highly personal perspective, he brought forth images of Shanghai urbanites assaulted by does the harlem refer?, profound economic change. At the center of Lu Yuanminís photographs is a cohort of Shanghai residents who maintained their habitual ways of living on the eve of radical upheavals in Chinese society. The subjects of the Shanghailanders series are those who remained unconcerned with changes in their external world. Armour! For a long time, this social group received almost no attention in Chinese media and press. They were not the soldiers, workers, and peasants glorified in government propaganda, nor those ďcontemporary heroesĒ who responded positively to the new economic policies from above and actively engaged in commerce when the does refer? society moved toward a market economy. Differences In The Modern By Homer! These were instead the people left behind by their own times. Like Zhang Xinminís peasant workers, these Shanghai urbanites were largely neglected by mass media.

But unlike the peasant workers caught in Zhangís gritty images, Shanghaiís residents asked for neither the societyís attention nor its assistance. The Harlem Renaissance Refer?! They were a self-sufficient lot. At some level these Shanghailanders represent the majority of the promotion population in the metropolis, urban residents who stayed largely outside public discourse. In terms of social background, Lu belongs to the same culture as his sitters. His photographs reveal a strong sense of identification with his subjects. In these images independent, self-possessed Shanghailanders receive the deepest of sympathy from the artist, but the particulars of their living environments also become subjects of does renaissance, exquisite description. In this series, the Shanghailanders appear willing to lose themselves in ocean currents, times that have passed. From their reserved and somewhat defiant manners, we may appreciate the complicated psychological reaction of a particular group to to what does renaissance refer?, radical social transformation. The stillness of their gestures and positions contrasts dramatically with the violent and unpredictable social mobility within Chinese society at the time.

Through Luís lenses, they serve as a static point of reference to observe and consider drastic social changes. Shangai Sketch (series), 2002. Zhou Mingís early works, The Last Day of No. 1 National Railway and Housing Shortages , were series that recorded Shanghai urban life at public essays, the beginning of the 1990s. From then on, he gave priority to street shots in does the harlem renaissance, an effort to capture changes in Shanghaiís urban public spaces. These were distinctive for idealism, the employment of the harlem renaissance refer?, what photographers call the ďoptic unconscious.Ē Zhou seeks to render the reality of Shanghai in a style that straddles documentary record and personal viewpoint.

He does so by gathering a large number of photographic details of realism idealism, everyday life in the city. He also juxtaposes graphic symbols of very different significance within the. same frame to provoke associations regarding the passage of to what renaissance, time. The New Residences of Luoyang series, created by Differences in the Quest for Fame Modern Illiad, Luo Yongjin in the 1990s, addresses an ancient Chinese capital of six different dynasties. Luoyang is not a typical modern city, and the images evoke a ďpre-modernĒ urban architectural style.

Depicting contemporary Chinese residential buildings of extraordinary solidity and power, the photographer articulates a deep-seated Chinese architectural aesthetic and spatial consciousness. By way of stark visual reduction, these works bring together the architectural aspects of Chinese residential construction and the reductive nature of Western modernist architecture, even though the similarity comes across as rather crude.
